What Does a Polysomnography Technician Do?

Polysomnography Technicians play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. They work closely with sleep specialists to collect and analyze data related to a patient’s sleep patterns. 

Key responsibilities may include: 

  • Patient Preparation: Preparing patients for sleep studies, including explaining procedures, collecting medical history, and ensuring patient comfort. 
  • Data Collection: Setting up and operating polysomnography equipment to record various physiological signals during sleep. 
  • Data Analysis: Identifying and documenting sleep-related events, such as sleep stages, breathing patterns, and heart rate changes. 
  • Patient Monitoring: Monitoring patients during sleep studies and responding to any emergencies or concerns. 
  • Data Reporting: Preparing reports summarizing sleep study findings for review by sleep specialists.
