What Does An EKG Technician Do?

EKG technicians provide patient care through the administration of electrocardiogram (EKG) testing, the best method for determining cardiovascular problems and monitoring heart health. In addition to supporting physicians, EKG technicians are also responsible for maintaining imaging equipment, sharing results and providing patient education.

After successfully completing the EKG technician certificate, students will have obtained the skills necessary to function as an essential part of a health care team, identifying heart conditions, analyzing diagnostic information, and assisting with procedures. You will also also be proficient in electronic health records, medical terminology and disease processes.

Where In the AdventHealth Network Can You Work?

EKG technicians work in a variety of settings, which may include hospitals, heart centers or private practice offices. Technicians will collaborate with many other health care professionals, and there are opportunities to further specialize in other areas such as echocardiography, vascular technology and Holter monitoring.
