What Does A Mental Health Support Professional Do?

The MedCerts Mental Health Support Professional program provides a solid foundation in mental health and mental health care, focusing on best practice skills to provide quality care to those served.

This program contains training that prepares students to care for individuals with mental or emotional conditions or disabilities. It also equips you with the knowledge of practice management and EHR software, as well as HIPAA and HITECH as it relates to privacy and security laws and measures.

Upon completion, students will be eligible to sit for the Mental Health Technician – Certified (MHTC) and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) exams through the AMCA.

Outcomes

This program prepares students to become Mental Health Technician – Certified (MHTC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) and the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) certification through the NHA. These combined certifications will prepare students to perform the processes and procedures in mental health care, pharmacology, medical office and patient care skills, including practice settings, and a broad understanding of psychological development, including mental health disorders.

Mental Health Technician Certification

The Mental Health Technician Certification (MHTC) is offered through the American Medical Certification Association. Obtaining MHTC certification demonstrates knowledge in the field of mental health care. The MHTC exam covers topics such as process and procedures, psychological development, pharmacology, medical office skills, patient care skills, and practice settings. After passing the exam and becoming certified, the MHTC certification must be renewed every two years through continuing education, some of which is offered by the AMCA.
