What Does A Healthcare IT Technician Do?

Healthcare information technicians play a key role in the daily upkeep of information technology systems within healthcare facilities. What’s unique about this role, and what differentiates healthcare information technicians from their industry peers, is the fact that they also have to understand and work within the confines of healthcare regulations and requirements.

Like most professions, day-to-day responsibilities will differ slightly depending on your employer and their needs, but below are some of the core responsibilities that healthcare information technicians are typically tasked with handling.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring IT systems are current and operating properly
  • Securing electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Managing sensitive patient data
  • Overseeing company-wide IT practices and policies
  • Troubleshooting IT systems on an as-needed basis

Compiling and storing sensitive data, such as a patient’s medical history or social security number, is extremely important, so having a skilled healthcare information technician to handle day-to-day IT duties is paramount.
