Through the Professional Medical Certificate, you are eligible for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC-A) certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the CCS-P certification through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

These certifications ensure that you are ready to excel as a Professional Medical Coder. It is recommended you have some experience in billing, coding, or the health care industry prior to taking this certificate.

The Online Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based Course (CCS-P) ensures individuals can:

  • Specialize in a physician-based setting including physician offices, group practices, specialty centers or multi-specialty clinics.
  • Review patient records and understand the medical codes that need to be assigned for each diagnosis and procedure.
  • Possess knowledge of the CPT coding system and understand the ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
  • Be an expert in health information documentation, data integrity, and quality.
